Centrifuges & Separation Equipment

Since 1893, GEA has been building centrifuges which combine high separating efficiencies, clarifying efficiencies and throughput capacities with maximum savings in terms of energy, water and disposal costs.

Separating Technology for the Efficient Recovery and Processing of Fish By-Products

As a result of global climate changes and the associated reduction in catch quotas, the fish-processing industry has been having to face new challenges for several years. This has resulted in a smaller number of large installations and more companies processing smaller capacities. GEA is supporting this development with process lines for reliable and efficient production. The focus is on separating solutions, which are the result of experience and innovative ability of the technology leader in this sector.

In the field of industrial fish production, our highly developed centrifuges handle a wide range of tasks, ensure optimum results and provide companies with attractive yield opportunities.

3-phase process: the efficient solution for small processing capacities

We support the production of fish oil and fish meal with tried-and-tested 2-phase standard procedures for the processing of large quantities of fish, such as the “conventional” and the “whole fish” method, and also with an innovative 3-phase process. After heating and coagulation, 3-phase decanters reliably separate the product into solids, water and oil phases. In order to remove extremely small remaining particles from the resultant oil phase, a polisher can also be installed downstream of the process. As a result of the very simplified process control and extremely small space requirement, this method is ideal not only for small processing capacities, and promises to provide tremendous economic benefits. Compliance with maximum purity standards as a result of the hygienic design of the complete process means that first-class fish oil in food quality can also be recovered.

Many applications, one result: Recovery of valuable raw materials in conjunction with reduced operating and disposal costs

In addition to the production of fish oil and fish meal, our separators and decanters are ideal for use in the production of the trend product surimi, where they handle the tasks of dewatering the surimi and also clarifying the process water. They also provide excellent service for the production of fish protein hydrolyzate and also in the treatment of tinned fish and fish pump water. They recover not only valuable raw materials for the food and animal feed industry; they also reduce the effluent load and energy consumption, thus providing companies with the benefits of significantly reduced costs.

High yield, first-class product quality and reliable process control

GEA centrifuges and process lines for the fish-processing industry reliably meet all requirements of the market, thus guaranteeing efficient and reliable production. All components, including the separator and decanter, are CIP-capable, and thus make a major contribution to hygienic process control. With bowl designs in resilient duplex material, our centrifuges also feature extremely robust design and are excellent for use in hot operating conditions, which in turn is reflected in low maintenance costs.

High g-forces and gentle product treatment ensure optimum separation performances in the decanter stage. In this way, first-class product quality can be assured with maximum yields. As a result of the innovative hydrostop system for highly concentrated solids discharge, our separators also reliably boost yields and permit efficient production processes.
