Compressors

The largest compressor program for commercial and industrial refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump applications. Since the end of the 19th century, it has been our business to cool processes and products, and to control the temperature of goods in transport. After all, we have been excited about refrigeration for decades now. As a result, our staff enthusiastically goes about its development and production projects – to include preventive and remedial maintenance of your compressor based refrigeration systems.

Cooling and Refrigeration

With our experience in the baking industry GEA can offer you the best in advice and the best quality and reliability. Our application engineers select cooling solutions adapted to your product requirements.

Fresh products – more and more ensured by sustainable cooling processes

Food cooling and refrigeration represents a decades-old passion of GEA. A lot of supermarkets, retail shops, cold stores and logistics centers rely on GEA technology for normal cooling (medium temperature) and deep-freezing (low temperature) processes. In supermarkets for example, fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood and confectionery have to be optimally-cooled in order to stay fresh.

The justified high hygiene and freshness standards in the European Union demanded for food mean that it is an absolute must to have reliable refrigeration of goods and an uninterrupted refrigeration chain. Constant and dependable refrigeration systems ensure that the right temperature will be maintained in cold storage rooms, cooling cabinets, freezer cabinets and freezer rooms.

Nowadays, sustainable food cooling and refrigeration is becoming more and more important. This is the reason why a lot of refrigeration systems are using the environmentally-friendly refrigerant R744 (CO2) for cooling and refrigeration processes. When used as a refrigerant in closed systems, the natural refrigerant R744 has no ozone depletion potential (ODP = 0) and a negligible direct effect on global warming (GWP = 1). It is a colorless gas which liquefies under pressure and has a slightly acidic smell and taste. R744 is not combustible, is chemically inactive and heavier than air. It has a narcotic and asphyxiating effect on humans only at higher concentrations. Carbon dioxide is available naturally in large quantities.

Moreover, an increasing number of GEA Group cooling and refrigeration systems is working according to the heat recovery principle, so that the energy received from refrigeration cabinets and rooms can be used efficiently – e.g. as heating or to supply hot water to supermarkets. This option will reduce the amount of gas or energy used for heating as well as the operating costs in the respective supermarket. Thanks to the concept of heat recovery, CO2 emissions to the environment are reduced significantly.
